Since we've got threads shared across sites, I think a little icon near people's username on posts would be neat to indicate through which site they originally signed up. Something like a pair of cans for TCaS, and a Rubik's Cube for NP.

Nah... that might cause there to be some level of discrimination between the two sites. Probably not, but it still kinda worries me.
[Quote] [Link]
I don't think it's important.
[Quote] [Link]
It would clear up some confusion,as the people over at TCaS are rarely nerds, and I've found that non-nerds sometimes have trouble understanding nerds. If they know we're nerds they won't mind not understanding, and we won't mind them not understanding us.

I'm a nerd and I hardly understood any of what you just said.

Guess that's personal, I understood it perfectly and I'm not sure if I'm a nerd.
[Quote] [Link]
hmm. I guess I was wrong. non-nerds understand nerds, but nerds don't understand themselves?
[Quote] [Link]
Well I wouldn't want to label myself a non-nerd, I'm just not sure if I deserve the nerd status ;)

"Nerd" is a title that, due to mainstreamization of nerd culture, is self-bestowed.

Hacker (in the original sense of a programmer subculture) is not. That's why I was objecting to the use of the logo.
[Quote] [Link]
can't "nerd" be bestowed by others as well?
[Quote] [Link]
Yes, although in such cases it usually takes on more of a derogatory connotation, and is thus a much different title than the self-bestowed version.

I could see having a version of this where it marks which site a post was made through, so that we know what's meant by references to "this site" and "this forum". It should be based on which domain the form submission went through, though, not where they signed up for an account.

On a semi-related note, it would be useful if there were some way for admins/mods to see who else is an admin/mod, particularly those who use a different site as their main UI, because we have less interaction with each other. I think we've had instances where a mod from one site reprimanded a user in a shared thread and a mod from another site reprimanded them for doing so, because they didn't know the first mod was a mod.
[Quote] [Link]
I second the second suggestion, but it would be useful for non admin/mods, too.
[Quote] [Link]
Users behave slightly but noticeably differently when admins/mods are marked as such for everybody. Whether this is a good thing is a matter of some debate.

Actually, considering the sad state of the NP forum, that may not be a bad idea.

I like the 'posted via' variation better. Since usernames work across sites, it makes more sense than tracking a user's 'home'.

I added the admin badge.

Pondering how to best do the posted-from thingamabob.
[Quote] [Link]
I approve. That's been bugging me since the crossover with TCaS began.

I like the label ('Administrator', though it didn't need to be bold), but the image attracts too much attention for me so I adblock-plus'd the image url.
[Quote] [Link]
I will change it to a dynamically changing URL just for you.

And I'll block via regex.

It gets interresting when the image data is embedded in the page or another file.

data: URLs are nifty!
