The Health care debate in DC is giving me a headache, and my insurer says that's a pre-existing condition.
So, without further ado, I bring back from the NP6 forums....the HEALTH CARE debate!

Health care reform passes in the house 219-212!

But now the Senate can revise it....

To that, I shall only say... what a phail.

nope, actually the house passed the senate bill, so it's off to the president's desk.

Ah. Good. I thought that the Senate was allowed to "fix" it after the House passed the Senate bill
[Quote] [Link]
The house passed two bills, the senate bill and a reconciliation bill, the latter of which goes to the senate, the other will become law as soon as Obama signs it.
[Quote] [Link]
I've not heard good things about it. I don't know much about it, though, so don't jump on me for being an Obama hater. And don't label me as an Obama supporter.

The fact remains that I might not like it even if I knew more about it.
[Quote] [Link]
From what I know about it (which is fairly limited, I will admit) I believe it is a step in the wrong direction.
[Quote] [Link]
I believe that it is a progressive step in the correct direction.

Did you know that one out of every five Americans lost their health insurance last year?

Also, insurers take questionable and unfair practices (pre-existing conditions, grandparents' credit score, etc.)

And we have the most inefficient health care system in the world

We also have the 38th largest life expectancy.

Those with higher life expectancies are countries with universal health care, like Japan and France

We are the only non-developed country without a universal health care system

("We" refers to the United States. Sorry.)
[Quote] [Link]
I'm not referring to the universal healthcare system, as I have no way to know if it's a step in the right direction. I don't know enough about that aspect. What I *do* know is that abortion is included, though, which goes against my own and many other's beliefs, and it's just wrong to force people to pay for something like that when it's completely against their core ideas.

Abortion funding is not in there

I believe he is correct. To be entirely fair I'm going to call for your source to indicate that it is.

I understand your argument and that abortion is a controversial issue, but many people are vegetarians and believe eating meat is wrong. We still pay taxes for food stamps on meat. Also, things like circumcision and euthanasia where it is allowed are in there, right?

Circumcision is an issue? And I only presented abortion as an issue because it's about all I'd heard about the bill, if euthanasia is in there, then my point extends to that, as well. I happen to not really care about that issue, but I know many people do.

Circumcision is an issue with some people. Fewer than abortion.

I'm not sure the legal status of euthanasia (as in I'm not sure it is legal). I suspect it's not specifically mentioned one way or the other in the bill but have no source for that.

Personally, I think that Pi(e) was just using it to demonstrate his point. Otherwise it would get a lot of coverage from the media

As far as I know, euthanasia is not mentioned in the bill. But it is legal in WA and OR.

Ah, in that case it would be implicitly covered (in those states) as long as the insurance company approved the "treatment" (I guess? IANALNDIPOOTV)

Does anyone know enough about it to tell me exactly what it does? All I really know about it is "It's a health care reform that looks like a Socialist system".

It makes sure that insurers can't scam you with "pre-existing conditions", your ancestors' credit scores, and things to that effect; allows you to stay on your parents' health insurance plan until you are 27, and paves the way for public health care provided by the government.
