my argument is that due to recent farming methods, the meat we eat is getting more and more unhealthy. It might have helped us evolve, but take, for example, a pig. Before the domestication of animals, a pig was ~3% fat, 97% "good stuff". By now, the fat content is over 30%, and I don't want to know what's in the rest. EDIT: back then, fat was "good stuff", so 100% good stuff. Now probably <30% |
I disagree that sentience is an invalid reason. I wouldn't eat something like, say, a dolphin, as it does in fact have a fairly high degree of intelligence. However, that's more based on my own personal idea of what is okay and what isn't okay to eat. As far as your "food chain" argument goes, I think that morally speaking, "it's natural" isn't an excuse at all. It's "natural" for people to go to war with each other or punch each other in the face, yet it's something that's generally agreed to be bad. Just because we can do something and our instincts tell us to do something does not make it good. |

I've been a vegetarian for a couple of years now and I still don't know the ins and outs of it. Still never had "good" tofu. Not even sure if "good" tofu exists. I eat numerous amounts of almonds and the like (I standardly try to avoid saying that I eat a lot of nuts). That seems to work for me. But so far most of my "vegetarian" food is just regular food without meat in it. Do you guys have any good non-meaty recipes? Aside from Peanut Butter and Jelly? |
