Pre-School through Grad School (or whatever level of schooling you've completed), all inclusive, what is the best class that you have ever taken, and what made it the best class ever? :)

High school chemistry. The teacher for that class fully realized that < 2% of us would ultimately need the information presented in a chemistry class and so she individually assigned us projects that were relevant to our interests or ideal career paths. Over the course of the semester, I made a chemistry website and a chemistry video game. I think she eventually got fired.

That's a travesty.

Second semester freshman year, I took a videogames course where we talked about what separated videogames from other media forms, how to talk about them with that in mind, how they do (or don't) convey messages knowing that, and lots of other things about, well, videogames.

For my final essay, I compared and contrasted Dead Space and Mass Effect's styles of immersion and their effectiveness. That rocked.

Other class highlights: Satire class in high school, we read Catch-22 among other books and stuff. Science Fiction in high school, half the class was devoted to Star Wars. 3D graphics class last term where I made a 3D chess game.

Overall, though, second place goes to my Visual Basic 3 course senior year of high school, where we did whatever project we wanted, graded ourselves (kinda, the teacher would change the grades if you were unreasonable), and goofing off online for the first half of class was fine. A couple days before breaks we played Halo CE multiplayer. Because we could. (My project was an alarm program with playlists and alarm schedules and stuff. I still use it.)

I've had a lot of good classes.

I was extremely fond of High School Chemistry and Junior English.
Chemistry due to the general kindness and geekiness of the teacher, Mr. Wenham. He was so awesome, he was a large reason in my choice of college.
English because the teacher made it more of a class about open discussions loosely dealing with attached reading, and I learned all sorts of things. It's the same reason I love my current Writing 101 class.

I've had two great history professors. The type of professor that knows every lecture by heart, can answer any question (and if they can't, they'll research it for you), and explains history as a series of stories rather than a series of dates and bureaucracy.
I also had a great digital music technology professor last year. We had no homework or tests; we were graded solely on class discussion and three songs that we had to make throughout the semester. Also, being in the class gave us full access to our school's music studio.
Lastly, the most fun class I've ever had was Japanese 102, mostly because my professor was so laid back. The entire semester I insisted that Japan is a fictional country much like Narnia, and that everything I know about Japan came from a famous documentary on Japanese history called "Katamari Damashii". Several class periods involved me and my friends colouring in our textbooks with crayons. There were people that dropped the class but still showed up, just because it was so much fun.

Oddly enough, PE. The teacher was pretty laid-back and focused more on what was fun to do than conditioning.

Biology, I only went a handful of times but that teacher was so dedicated to his students. If he was out, he taped his lesson plan. He'd look at me, shocked when I knew the answer to every question he threw out, and say, "If you'd only come to school."

In the second semester of my freshman year, I had a course entitled "History of Modern Science". The name was misleading, because we started in the paleolithic era. Professor Borene not only gave me a basic framework for my eventual omniscience, but also gave me the advice to become a research professor, which is now my career goal.

Also, we read four amazing books in that class, and I gained some new historical heroes.

Honors Chemistry in High school.

I loved watching things react and setting things on fire.

AP English and Literature, tied with Physics. Both of them fascinate me, whether it's how things work or how they write, which is also, in a way, making things work as well. It helps that I've had great teachers for both.

I *loved* second grade reading class. We did arts and crafts while learning new words.

I am loving French class.

Latin, so far, has been amazing. It excites me, seeing the way all the words can be linked together across hundreds and thousands of years.

That's the way I felt about Greek. It was consistently one of my favorite classes all four semesters, even thought it was also my hardest class.

The best class I have ever taken was actually an introductory course for an electrician. I was offered it as a high school elective, so I took the opportunity to learn something new. The reason I really enjoyed this class is because at the time, I found it insanely challenging. I ACTUALLY had to work for an "A". I had never had to put much effort into a class before, so it was a refreshing experience to know that I was going to struggle through this one. I had to figure out answers for problems that I had never experienced first hand. I liked the challenge. Though, I now have more knowledge with things to do with this field (still considered a "noob" to professionals) I will always appreciate that class for showing me that I don't know everything.

Pre-school art. I look back and compare it to art now and wonder how it went from that class where we expressed our creativity to a class in highschool where you cut and paste 'resorces' ie- other peoples work and document your 'thoughts' in fixed projects.

Organic Chemistry:
I just had a blast with it, and I felt that I could really understand the principles and apply them. I just thought it was fun to be able to look at a chemical name, or think about something that you want to build, and think to yourself, "I know how to make that!"

Our school system has an advanced learning track (Enrichment Program) from elementary to 8th grade. It was all amazing. Programming, robotics, problem solving... it was great! But 8th grade was the best year, because the options were unlimited.
