My school blocked NP due to the fact that it was a "social networking site". So what actually is a social networking site?

A social networking site is a site were you can connect with others online. Because it has a forum, NP is a social network.

Well that is interesting, because I only actually know (physically) one person here, so the rest are not actually my "friends". This website is not a website I use for my social life (if you consider me to have one), but then again, school blocking systems were always an epic fail.

Social doesn't necessarily refer only to your interactions with friends. It can refer to interactions with other people as well which would make NP a social network. Dictionary.com's definition is "a website where one connects with those sharing personal or professional interests, place of origin, education at a particular school, etc."

Any other person that you interact with is by definition part of your social life.

I couldn't stand it when the school blocked this site. I had NerdParadise withdrawals and downloaded a proxy. I don't like how it is a social networking site due to the fact the majority of the people that use this site are very intellectual. Thus I learn more on here than when I sit in class.

When my high school blocked NP, we did the obvious thing and convinced them it was educational. We later did the same thing with games like N and Hell of Sand. In retrospect, we really should've seen how far we could carry that.

Better to quit while you're ahead - the only way to find out when they'll catch on is by doing enough that they catch on. Then you bust, and lose it all.

A social networking site is aplace where we can meet with our old friends and can chat with them easily.

The same thing happened to me with 2C&S. The fix was this site. I feel SO much better now!

Oh, and if anyone is remotely interested, I was bored on my x90x.net account and created a simple jCow Social Network with minimal customizations. Join press.f11.us (Put Social Neworking Fullscreen!) if you want. Or not.
