I'm not sure whether this belongs here or in "Philosophy", or in "Humanities". It's really a general discussion thread, seeing as I'm just watching Neon Genesis Evangelion, which I consider to be one of the best anime I've ever seen. Again, feel free to go off on some random tangent, so long as it's related to Eva. What's interesting is that instead of seeing myself in Shinji, I find interesting and similar people in Gendou and Rei. In fact, I don't see Gendou as a "moustache-twirling villain", but rather as a deeply flawed, hurt, and alone character trying to construct a better world to live in once he resurrects Yui...according to his own ideals (he seems to realize his faults when Rei disobeys him). Indeed, I see Gendou as an older version of Shinji--one possible way he could have grown up. |
