Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?
The Forum > Hobbies and Stuff > Minecraft Texture Packs
Since the Minecraft design page instantly derailed to texture packs, I've created this page in what will probably be a futile attempt to keep things on topic.

I'll start off by saying that painterly is probably my favorite non-hd texture pack due to its high level of personalization. Otherwise I'm partial to the 256-bit version of photorealism. Makes everything look pretty.

I just use default, I really see the point of texture packs. (The game still looks ugly.)

It looks better though. And it can give the game a theme. Like I have a wintery texture pack.

I've never found the game ugly. I think it can be really nice.

It's definitely not the "Oh my gosh, that almost looks realistic!" graphics that a lot of games push for nowadays, but I wouldn't call it ugly. If it was ugly, why would you bother playing it, since a major point of the game is to design and build things?

Off topic, but I like your avatar. :P

NO. NO OFF TOPIC.

This thread was created because the predecessor was getting off topic; that predecessor was also created because the original Minecraft thread was derailed. /facepalm let's at least try and make it to the second page -__-

I hate painterly; and I've never found a Texture pack I've liked more than the original.

I actual haven't played the game much in the last months. I've accepted the fact the game is ugly, for me, most of the stuff I built was under ground and/or made out of dirt.

It's not like I was sparking a long discussion... I made a single comment. Calm down. And it's not like it's hard to reclaim an off topic thread. Just start talking about stuff that is on topic.

Anyway, I like the ones that give it a cartoony look. They're pretty fun. I don't know what they're called, I don't play enough to download one.

I play a slightly personally modified version of the default texture pack. I only changed things that I thought looked ugly (shape of porkchops, color of leather items, texture of chests, etc.).

A friend of mine uses one of those, and I have to admit, it's grown on me.

does anyone know what texture pack binary used in the picture on the other thread???
[Quote] [Link]
...why can't texture pack discussion and people showing off their designs all go in the main Minecraft thread? Seriously.
[Quote] [Link]
Because it's considered off topic apparently. Yeah, I don't know the purpose of these threads.
[Quote] [Link]
Crazy people talking about stuff related to minecraft in the minecraft thread.
[Quote] [Link]
Probably because they don't like the fact that the current thread is presently hosting a discussion about Minecraft servers. If it does not interest you, just start a new conversation in the same thread with the magic of quotes! There is no real point for more than one Minecraft thread on here. If more are needed, you can use the Minecraft forums.

I also said this in the Minecraft thread: I made my own texture pack, where everything looks plain! Dirt is just plain brown, stone is grey, clay is greyish, and some other textures look the same, but with no different colours.

Personally, I'm not a fan of "flat" texture packs. The default one is my favorite so far (minus a couple ones that I textured myself) There was also a really cool one I saw earlier, but can't find it anymore.

Anyway, does anyone know how to change the color of water?
[Quote] [Link]
There is a file called water.png somewhere in the texture files.

Edit: I thought...

Edit edit: Yeah, it's in "misc". Oh and "watercolor.png" contains the gradient that is used for color, I believe.
[Quote] [Link]
Editing that file doesn't seem to change it, though. I think you had to do something with MCPatcher, but I couldn't figure it out.
[Quote] [Link]
It's more complicated, yes. There's probably tutorials on youtube and the minecraft forums.

heh. sorry about that...

I've recently been using the two that come packaged in with the 'Yog Box'. They both give water depth which I reckon is really neat (as in the deeper the water the more blue it is).
Personally I enjoy the default skin a lot more since the lighting improvements but failing that the Painterly texture pack is pretty nice seeing as its completely customizable and you can make squids into Bloopers from Super Mario Bros.

Actually, that png file is an unimplemented file to change water color according to biome, similar to how the grass color is changed according to biome.

Anyways, I use the Wayukian texture pack. It's a nice looking 16x16 texture pack that adds a slightly darker feel to the game. But there are few HD texture packs that I can stand. It's just that the blocks are so detailed that having a mixture of them kind of looks bad.
