I can't stand Doctor Who, so boring.

Out of curiosity, which seasons did you watch?

So David Yates isn't making a movie? That would have been cool.

As a toddler I saw some First Doctor, first time around and hid behind the couch!

Tom Baker was the Doctor I really remember.

Could you tell me why you find Doctor Who boring, anything in particular or just series in general?

One thing that puts me off about Doctor Who is the way the story just seems to go around and around, with no end in sight. It's just endless aliens, time travel, etc. And at the end of the serial, everything seems to basically go back to square one. Can someone outline a narrative for the overall plot of Doctor Who, like what's happened between the First Doctor and the new Doctor?

There have been twelve doctors total, it might take up a little bit too much space here for their entire sum plot synopsis. three words though, Doctor Who Wiki.

It doesn't need explaining. I don't see why people can't just live in the 'now' of a show and forget about the other series. That's why it's the longest running Sci-Fi show ever.

I know about the Doctors, my point is asking what the actual plot is. A narrative needs a plot. A beginning, middle and end.

For example: Lost:
Plane crash lands on mysterious island. Survivors discover other, mysterious people live there, they find a bunch of weird stuff like a hatch with a man inside pressing a button stopping the world ending, and sick people are healed, and there's a big clash as the survivors split into believers and skeptics. There's a smoke monster man who turns out to be more or less evil incarnate, and the island turns out to be some special magical place where evil is kept prisoner. Most of the survivors die, turns out the whole thing was planned because Jacob needed to recruit a new guardian of the island. He recruits Hurley. The end.

What would be a similar synopsis of Doctor Who?

What you're saying then is that it's the longest running because there's no story to follow. If there's no story to follow, what are people watching? A narrative needs a . . . narrative. If you can just forget about other series then there can't be any real story going on. Coronation Street has been running a long time too, because there's no story.

Maybe there is a plot, that's what I'm asking about.

I don't believe there is a core plot to Doctor Who, rather the plot mixes up from doctor to doctor. For instance, Matt Smith's doctor has been about 2 things: The Silence and the relationship between Amy and Rory. At least, that is my impression of it.

One of the running themes is Daleks trying to take over the show. It does change season to season and Doctor to Doctor, though.

If it had one continuous plot, you'd be complaining that it was boring and nothing ever changed or happened and we were being ridiculous for watching the same thing over and over.

What makes it timeless is that people my age can just pick up from the 9th Doctor and still be able to follow it rather than watching almost 50 years of it just to get up to speed. You can start like that with Doctors 9-11 and I haven't seen the older series, but I guess that's the case there too.

If you're really desperate you could try this plot summary.

I imagined this hilarious fourth-wall shattering scene where the Daleks invade the studio and change the script up, cause ruckus, etc.

Whose keen to see more of the Mighty Morphin Power Daleks for the next season!? Maybe they can all morph together into a massive Dalek-zord! "Daaaaleeeks, Meeegaa fooorm aaaaacktiiivaaate, aaaaacktivate!

I had to hunt down the special. It was adorable.

I didn't actually like the ending, I loved the forest, but the ending seemed a little 'Let's tie it up quickly into a happy ending. Everybody lives!'

I just finished watching season 2. David Tennant is such a fantastic actor. Allons-y!
