Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Bach's Cello Suite No. 6.--though I like all of the cello Suites.

Just about any Mahler symphony, and also Steve Reich. Philip Glass is pretty cool too.

a) Bach's Brandenburg Concertos
b) Brahm's 4th symphony (which I am listening to right now)

Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring

I was recently introduced to the awesomeness of the Prelude to act I of Tristan and Isolde in my theory class. It was partially my professor's excitement for the piece, but it quickly jumped to one of my favorite songs.

Also any of Bach's Inventions, and Little Fugue in g minor (really, anything by Bach :)).

Do movie soundtracks count? I love the Star Trek soundtrack, as well as ET, Star Wars, Jurrassic Park, Indiana Jones (which I watched only for the music)

Requiem for a Dream had a GREAT soundtrack.

That's a good question. In my opinion, they sort of count. They are often in a romantic classical style, but there is something about them that is unique to soundtracks, perhaps their formulaic nature.

Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in Amaj (K 622). Especially the third movement.

Bolero, Rite of Spring, uhh actually those are technically modern.

Do you literally mean in the "Classical" period or just old music that has orchestral instruments? :p Because Bach is good.

I meant Classical in the broader sense, and I think people are still writing classical music, so it doesn't have to be old.

How embarrassing. I could have sworn I started this thread.

Of late I have been quite impressed by Rachmaninov's Piano Sonata #2, particularly Horowitz's 1980 performance. The Alexander Nevsky cantata by Prokofiev is also amazing.

Good job.

I like Das Lied von Der Erde, Verdi's Requiem, Bach's Goldberg Variations...
