What is your favorite piece of classical music?

Mine is Gloomy Sunday.

Mine would have to be either Rhapsody in Blue or Also Sprach Zarathustra.

Also Sprach Zarathustra, Toccata and Fugue, 1812 Overture, O Fortuna, Moonlight Sonata, and Canon in D

I actually enjoy Vivaldi's Four Seasons very much :)

No, really. If you listen closely, there are 3 sections to each piece.

I know. I just didn't realize before what Pie) was saying, and when I read his post, I suddenly understood his imagery and found it humurous

I've been really into Conlon Nancarrow and Steve Reich lately. This past summer I actually got to see a performance of the first part of Drumming by Reich, which was amazing and very memorable.

Technically they're sorted by tempo, which I can only guess corresponds to months in some way.

I will take this time to get the thread back on the original topic by listing my favorite songs.
  • Moonlight Sonata (which I have loved since I first heard it back when I played Hamtaro)
  • That... one.... Beethoven song. I can't place what it's name is, and I can't exactly sing it... I'll ask somebody who knows later. Then I'll update this post to be more accurate (and erase this mini-rant).
  • Flight of the Bumblebee.

It really depends what type of classical, but right now, my all-round favorite is the Enigma Variations by Sir Edward Elgar.

or Chopin for short.

Four seasons is fantastic. Anything by Tchaikovsky is great. I like a good deal of Beethoven. Pachelbel's canon is fun.

I listened to some of Nancarrow's studies for player piano, some of which I thought were pretty interesting. I had a composition class for which I listened to a lot of new music by composers like these (I'm not sure what to call this category of music). I only liked a small portion of what I heard. However, I definitely support the idea of not composing music in a style that has already been used by many composers.

Fur Elise, it plays inside my mind over and over. Making the most mundane task pleasurable. Ever had a song stuck in your head that is so beautiful you don't mind?

Goretzki's third symphony and the "Albinoni" adagio in Gm are particular favourites of mine.
