The Forum > Introductions > It's me, Avi
Hello, I'm Aviel (pronounced Ah-vee-EL). I generally go by Avi though (AH-vee). I'm an opinionated and annoying 16 year old that will no doubt have gotten on your nerves by the end of this post. I am a liberal and a supporter of Israel, as well as a Jewish Atheist.

Here are my stats:
STRENGTH: 2
STAMINA: 0
CHARISMA: -Ï€
WEIGHT: 220 lbs
WINGSPAN: N/A
CHEMICAL BASE: carbon
MAXIMUM SPEED: 3.2 mph
CALORIES PER SERVING: 1599
CONNECTION SPEED: 10 bps
PRICE: $49.99 per unit

49.99?
Ill take ten :P

Sorry, only one is in stock at the moment and it doesn't have a soul, so the price will be marked down by 10%.

Seriously though, I sold my soul in 5th grade for a quarter (which I then lost) to prove that there is no such abstract concept as a soul.

...If only that in some way proved it.

^. Also, assuming you HAD a soul before you sold it (something you can't disprove)...
[Quote] [Link]
Well, we'd also be assuming that
  • The soul is something that can be purchased
  • This kid would somehow know how to give their soul to the buyer
  • The buyer would know how to collect
  • You own your soul
  • You have/had a soul
  • You don't later attain a soul
  • A soul is tangible
  • You have control over your soul

The list goes on.

When you assume...
Must I finish that?

Nah.

But I will admit, I'm still rolling my eyes at that he said he was trying to prove there was no such abstract thing as a soul--by selling it.

I could just as easily say that I sold my creativity for a dime, so there is no such thing as creativity.

Maybe you 'sold' it but never delivered the purchased item. Totally possible, it happens on eBay all the time.

^ NP doesn't need a like button
[Quote] [Link]
Oh, dear gods, no.

If you're going to "like" something on a forum, you might as well just post your agreement and give supportive comments beyond an emotionless button click. This is not facebook.
Please note: these are not, in fact, my views, but simply views posted for the sake of argument.

Gah, not this again. :(

How is the button click "emotionless"?
It is, by definition, an expression of approval and agreement.

'Like' buttons have no soul.

If you're willing to express something, then why not express it in words instead of clicking a button? Simplifying emotional expression down to a button click just seems dehumanizing to me.
Please note:Again, these are not, in fact, my views, but simply views posted for the sake of argument.

I just think it's stupid and discourages actual communication. *shrugs I have no problem with it on sites like facebook, but I think it's detrimental to an actual forum.

MEGA MEH GAH

Okay, that post was totally pointless.

Is is possible to be atheist and Jewish? You have not yet gotten on my nerves. I, too, am opinionated. My mum hates that about me. My sister, on the other hand, likes that about me. :)
[Quote] [Link]
Well, it depends on who you ask. Some consider themselves Jewish only if they are Jewish of religion, but if you are of Jewish blood, you can definitely call yourself a Jew.

I was in fifth grade, of course my concept of how one would go about disproving the soul wasn't very well defined.

Anyways, the simple explanation is that I'm Jewish culturally and an atheist religiously. Judaism is unique in that, as much as it is a religion it is also a culture.
