I would say nerds have a higher incidence of being atheists, but not all or mostly. Probably because nerds almost by definition do not follow social pressures, and in most of America that means being some moderate flavor of Christianity. Nerds probably have higher incidences of being a more unusual or stronger form of Christianity as well. |
I would like to say that most of the nerds at my college are not atheists. Many of them, however, tend to consider themselves either non-denominational Christian, agnostic, or follow a different religion. One of my best friends comes from a traditionally Christian family but has herself converted to Shintoism. Because of this, I'd also be more inclined to follow the previous statement that many nerds are more likely to think for themselves, try new things, and choose their own way, which can lead them to different beliefs than the majority. |
Non-denominational Christian. It's what my family has always been raised to be, and while I believe it really passively (as in, the belief of the existence of the one god, and that god being the Christian god) I don't follow any of it's rules simply because they are written in the Bible, and I do not read the Bible I was given by my grandmother. |

Also LDS. My theory is that the religion encourages academics and education, and therefore has a higher output of academically inclined members than many other churches. |
