As a new year comes, I ask you: Has anyone found a point of it yet?

Several, check your silverware drawer.

So in future years, history teachers will torture their students with dates of historical significance that occurred during this one.

The meaning of life...
Well the purpose of life is simple, to make more life at all costs necessary.

Wouldn't it also be to be good to other life?
[Quote] [Link]
I think he's asking why be good to other life. If not for the ethical answer (it's the right thing to do according to most codes of ethics) then you might as well go for the self-preservation answer. Chances are good that someone can do to you just about anything you would do to another life form. Therefore mutual agreements not to harm each other tend to be beneficial for all members of society.

No, I meant that one meaning of life would be to treat other forms of life well. Not just for your own gain, but just to help them out a little bit. Now I'm not saying not to eat meat or not to drive cars because it "harms the environment". I'm just saying to have some sense about you when dealing with others.

Life is for living. People just tend to make other people's lives miserable.

We are alive; it is up to us to decide what that means.

I would have to agree. There is no single purpose, but billions of purposes. Multiple purposes for each life, perhaps.

As a general rule, when someone moves discussion towards controversial topics, common viewpoints and general consensus thinking, I convince myself it's not as black and white as the other person implies, then logic my way through it.

Seriously. I do it multiple times a day. Every day. Good habit.

Life is a hallway. It has no end, no rooms, nowhere to go. We walk down it, however, due to sheer curiosity, we think there must be something at the end. Our life goal is to reach the magical surprise at the end of the hallway, however it never comes. But the painting- oh, the paintings hanging on the wall are so beautiful. Sometimes we stop and gaze at them, gaze at them in awe. The wise realize that the goal is not to reach the end of the hallway, for it does not exist, but to enjoy the paintings along the way.

But how do we know our own purpose? Or is it possible to ever know?
[Quote] [Link]
We choose our own purpose.

If anything or anyone else has a purpose for us, then it is up to them to let us know. So far I have not been contacted.
[Quote] [Link]
Are you sure? Never acted on something you dreamed of? Never had a spontanious thought and acted upon it? These "contacts" could be subliminal. Just for the sake of argument.

Good question.

Something or someone could indeed be using me for their own purposes. People use each other in many ways overt and covert. I don't consider this type of usage to be a "Purpose" in the "Meaning of Life" sense.
