I'm just curious as to how many people use it.

I want to switch, but

Other people don't use it, so while ato others' places, I will have to use QWERTY.

The initial impediment would be to much. My current situation makes it necessary to type fast.

I'm typing with it right now, and let me tell you, its a nightmare to get used to. But, I've only been at it for 10 minutes, and it feels so natural already.

I've been considering it. I probably won't do it until my next laptop though.

I've also considered doing a one-handed version. The ability to be typing with my left hand and doing something else with my right hand is quite tempting.

huh, good idea. hadnt thought of that...

I sometimes switch to left-handed Dvorak so I can use the mouse with my right hand at the same time as typing.

I've considered switching several times, but two things keep dissuading me.

1. The vast majority of my typos are transition typos that occur at hand boundaries within a word.
2. Keyboard shortcuts are laid out with qwerty in mind. Dvorak does horrible things to their layout.

More obscure layouts, like Colemak, help with the second, but I doubt any two-handed layout will help with the first.

This specifically is pretty much what has kept me from switching. Having to switch all the keyboard shortcuts on the games I play would be a nightmare.

That's the same reason why I don't use wasd (or rather ijkl or okl;) for movement keys. It's too much work to remap everything and keep track of what I mapped where.

Keyboard layout agnostic shortcut keys from the DOS-era:

Shift + Delete = Cut
Ctrl + Insert = Copy
Shift + Insert = Paste

Yet they still work for almost any app.

Except the advanced people in hardwarediv keep trying to kill insert keys.

The other day I discovered the super button.

Also *NIX.

Switched, kept it for a while, then switched back, too many inconsistencies. But good to know.

I'm halfway a hunt and peck typist anyway, I think I did it for aesthetics...

I hate watching someone hunt and peck. It drives me absolutely nuts.

That peeves me too. Especially when I'm typing shared notes with them.
[Quote] [Link]
I suppose what I do isn't really hunt and peck, since I know where the keys are. But I still have to look at the keyboard to type.
[Quote] [Link]
I would probably push you away from my keyboard and have you dictate. :P
[Quote] [Link]
Haha but you couldn't type because I have a Dvorak keyboard. See how it all works out?
[Quote] [Link]
wtf, man. Type Dvorak on a keyboard with QWERTY caps. The disconnect will jar your mind enough that you -can't- look at the keys anymore.

If you're already doing it this way and still looking, then you're weird.
[Quote] [Link]
I was gonna do that, and probably will when summer starts, but for now I just popped off the keys and switched 'em.
