Actually, I created that account to figure out what people would do on it.

Back when we allowed anonymous users we discovered that the option was abused more often that it was used to actually contribute to the forum. I remember at least one or two incidents where a couple of people used it to repeatedly spam the forums, and while that is still possible by creating an account, it's much easier and more tempting when people can simply post anonymously.
